Soar Above It All: Balloons Rule!

Seriously, what can be more magical than this: soaring up into the air in a hot-air balloon, seeing the marvels of the West Bank tombs and temples from above, getting a bird’s eye view of the Valley of the Kings and seeing the sun rise over the rural lands of Luxor… When the flames are turned off, it is so quiet up there, and you really don’t know where to look.

Depending on the direction of the wind, we either float in the direction of the mountain or the Nile. Whichever way we go, we see the most fascinating spectacles from above: the temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari, the Ramesseum, Medinet Habu and the Desert, or, as we float towards the Nile, the villages waking up beneath us, the people going to their work and taking the animals out to pasture, the sunrise over the Nile and Karnak and Luxor Temples… Fascinating and totally beautiful, this is an experience you will never forget, guaranteed.

A word of warning: after some disconcerting experiences with lesser balloon companies here in Luxor, we have decided to only offer the balloons of Hod Hod Soliman. They are the most expensive because of their quality, spotless safety record, standard of training of the pilots and insurance (from Lloyds in the UK). The other balloon companies are all involved in a price war and undercutting each other’s prices to a ridiculous degree which leads to a general slacking off in safety, amongst other unsavoury practices. Apparently, none of the other companies even have insurance, which is not a comforting thought if you are floating high in the air. You can and will find balloon rides offered cheaper than the ones we offer, but we recommend that you think carefully before you book any of these rides. But it is, at the end of the day, up to you!
