Awe-Inspiring Abydos and Denderah
http://www.HiddenEgypt.com/

We leave Luxor early, on the 8 o’ clock convoy, to visit the enchanting temple of Abydos, with its magical colours and beautiful reliefs, the height of Egyptian art!
The temple as it currently stands was built by Seti I and finished by his son Ramesses II, also known as Ramesses the Great. It is generally considered to be one of the most beautiful temples in Egypt, and some people will even say it is the most beautiful one, and we’d be inclined to agree. The temple boasts sanctuaries to seven different gods, including the deified Seti I himself and the reliefs in each one of them are truly stunning. It also has an Osirian chapel that is just mystifying and therefore fascinating, as is the Osirion, a subterranean structure built just behind the temple proper. The Osirion has given rise to many theories, some outlandishly out-there, some traditionally confined, and everything in between. Gaze upon this millennia-old mystery and judge for yourself…

Abydos was the Mecca of ancient Egypt, a place that every ancient Egyptian should visit at least once in his life as a sacred pilgrimage. It was an active site of worship for at least 5,000 years and you can still feel that vibe today. So don’t miss it!

After Abydos, we climb back into our air-conditioned bus to drive to Denderah. Denderah was a famous temple of healing, dedicated to the goddess Hathor, the lady of love and beauty. The current temple dates to the time of the Ptolemies and the Romans, and has many interesting features, such as the Denderah Zodiac, the larger-than-life depiction of the famous Cleopatra (VII) and her son Cesarion, healing temples and an enchanting birth-house, called a mammisi.

A very full and rewarding day!
